On the evening of May 28, under the lights of the Kolodrum Sports Complex in Stara Zagora, it was not just a football match that took place, but an extraordinary act of humanity, compassion, and hope. Medical students from Trakia University joined forces and hearts in the charity football match “Medical Students Against Cancer,” raising an impressive 4,548 leva in support of children battling cancer and blood diseases.
The event was organized entirely by the students—young people who are not only learning to save lives, but are already doing so in the most heartfelt way. The funds were raised from the sale of tickets at a symbolic price of 20 leva, and each ticket purchased was more than just a pass to a sporting event – it was a gesture of kindness, solidarity, and faith in the future of some of the most vulnerable – sick children.
The initiative was implemented with the support of the “Academic Partnership for Improving the Health of Young People with Health Problems and Special Needs – UNI HEALTH,” Agreement No. KA 220-HED-47/05-10-2023. The money raised will be donated to the Association of Children with Oncological and Hematological Diseases, an organization that fights every day for the quality of life, treatment, and integration of sick children and their families.
The start of the meeting was marked by a welcome and warm words from Prof. Yulian Ananiev, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Trakia University. He expressed his deep gratitude to the students for their initiative and commitment – not only as future doctors, but also as people with big hearts.
The football match was not just a sporting event – it was an example of how young people can be a driving force for good. With every pass, every point scored and every smile on the pitch, a message of hope, support and solidarity was conveyed.
Trakiya University and its students proved that when knowledge meets the heart, change is born. And although the battle with cancer is long and difficult, it is not a lonely one – because behind every sick child there are thousands of young hearts ready to run, fight and win.
